Dubai will host the 12th edition of its international project management forum from January 10 to 13 under the theme 'From Vision to Impact', the emirate's Roads and Transport Authority (RTA) has announced. The event is positioned as a meeting point for global business leaders, government officials and project management specialists to exchange knowledge.

Mattar Al Tayer, Director-General and Chairman of the RTA Board, said the forum has secured a place on the global project management calendar over its 11 prior editions. He described the theme as capturing Dubai's approach: clear vision, sound planning, swift execution and measuring impact.

A growing global platform

Since its launch in 2014, the forum's 11 editions have drawn more than 25,000 participants and over 450 speakers, according to Al Tayer. He said these figures reflect growing global trust in the forum as a knowledge reference.

The 12th edition will cover four main themes and 12 sub-topics, broadening the programme beyond a single discipline. The gathering is designed to allow attendees to compare approaches and share practical experience across sectors.

Al Tayer called project management a fundamental pillar for turning plans into achievements, framing the discipline as central to how organisations deliver on their stated goals rather than as a back-office function.

Sustainable communities in focus

One of the four main themes, Sustainable Communities, addresses smart cities, resilient infrastructure and social and economic sustainability. These topics reflect the region's rapid urban growth and the pressure on planners to build systems that last.

For Gulf cities expanding at pace, resilience and social sustainability are increasingly weighed alongside cost and speed. The theme places those considerations within the forum's broader project management agenda.

The sub-topics under this theme are expected to give participants a structured way to discuss how infrastructure decisions affect communities over the long term.

Technology and the future of delivery

The Future of Project Management theme covers automation, artificial intelligence, ecosystem integration, stakeholder coordination and agile approaches. These areas reflect how digital tools and new working methods are reshaping how projects are planned and delivered.

Automation and AI are moving from pilot projects into mainstream workflows, while agile approaches challenge traditional sequencing. The forum will examine how these changes affect coordination among stakeholders and across interconnected ecosystems.

By grouping these topics under one theme, organisers appear to be treating technological change as a management question as much as a technical one.

What it means for the Gulf

For residents and businesses in the UAE and the wider Gulf, the forum's themes map closely onto the region's development priorities. Smart cities, resilient infrastructure and sustainable communities are central to how governments plan transport, housing and public services.

Companies that supply, design or manage projects may find the discussions relevant to procurement and delivery standards. The emphasis on automation and AI also signals where skills and investment are likely to be directed in the coming years.

The event's scale, with more than 25,000 participants across its history and over 450 speakers, suggests it functions as a reference point for practitioners. Its outcomes may inform how projects are planned and measured across the region, though the notes do not specify any binding commitments.

With the 12th edition set for January 10 to 13, the forum offers a scheduled moment for public and private sectors to compare notes on delivering complex projects. For Gulf residents, the practical effect will be felt in how quickly and reliably the infrastructure around them is built and maintained.
